Abstract
This study discusses the role of graphic design in advertisements celebrating Indonesia's 80th Independence Day on August 17, 2025, published in the Tribun Jabar daily newspaper. Independence Day advertisements are a form of visual communication routinely used by government agencies, private companies, and public figures to convey messages of nationalism, identity, and support for the spirit of independence. Amidst the development of digital media, print media continues to play an important role, particularly in presenting formal and structured visual representations. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews with the graphic design and marketing team of Tribun Jabar, direct observation of print advertisements, and documentation. The results of the study show that graphic design in Indonesian Independence Day advertisements not only serves as a complement to the appearance, but also becomes part of a visual communication strategy. Elements such as red and white colors, formal typography, the layout of state symbols, and photos of public figures are used strategically to emphasize the message of patriotism and the identity of the advertiser. This study concludes that graphic design plays an important role in conveying national messages visually and emotionally, as well as strengthening the image of institutions or figures who place advertisements. The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for students, graphic designers, and media practitioners in understanding how visual communication design functions in the context of independence anniversary advertisements in local print media.
