Abstract

Indonesian railways have a strategic role in supporting the country's economy by facilitating the distribution of goods and the movement of people from one placeto another in a comfortable, safe, and timely manner. To achieve these conditions, it is necessary to check and maintain facilities and infrastructure (track/ railroad conditions) by using KPJ in the form of a modified truck from a TATA ACE EX2 vehicle whose operation must provide safety regarding the braking system. Research in this final project begins with identification, literature study, and taking measurements to obtain specifications of the modified vehicle. Then perform calculations and analyze the results in accordance with mathematical formulationsto find the load distribution for each axle, center of gravity, and braking force based on the ability of the modified disc brake system under the existing KPJ vehicle loading conditions. From the calculation results, the actual braking force that occurs on the frontwheels and rear wheels is BdD+BdB (330.07+112.71=442.78kg) then the results are compared with the vehicle sliding force F=m.a (2546x1.123=292.34kg). Referring to Newton's Law II (Inertia) the braking system is safe if BdD+BdB≥F. (442.78 kg≥292.34kg). The braking system of the TATA ACE EX2 vehicle modified by the Daihatsu Taft GT F70 car caliper as KPJ can work properly according to its function.
